Body Detox and Fasting

Deadly? Life sucked out of you, lifeless, death? A rumor, and exaggeration?

Not at all. Depending on your diet, physical fitness, weight, current and past good or bad habits, or lack of will power, consuming drugs – prescription, antibiotics, “natural” or illegal will determine how much of a threat and how serious a reaction detoxification could have on your body. Fasting on the other hand, compared between the two, is usually safest.

And of course, your doctor or your choice of licensed medical practitioner, even if an alternative health doctor, or holistic practitioner, should be consulted, before such health impacting decisions are made. More on the how doing a body detox could lead to death, in our follow up to this health article, shortly. One you do not want to miss, for reasons obvious reasons.

But for now, as this may be simply an introduction to fasting and detoxification methods and home remedies, let’s look at the most common, mainstream, and often touted way to detoxify your body.

The most common, simplest, cheapest and certainly most widely attainable is water fasting. And in essence, the fasting basics are two fold. Some define “fasting” or doing a “fast” as going without any food, at all. You hear about prisoners who fast, sometimes to the point of their own demise, to make a political statement. And this fasting definition is correct. But, it does have variations, and that is the context that we are going to discuss when fasting with your own body detox.

What happens when you stop eating food and in its place, drink water, you give your internal organs the chance to ease up and your digestive system, most of all gets to rest. Which if you think of how tired you feel after a dose of exercise, you’ll better understand why this resting period is so necessary.

Of course, throwing weights around in a gym and doing vigorous cardio does not compare to the same “exercise” terminology you are most familiar with (hopefully), but your body never stops, until you’re dead. Constant motion and movement takes its toll, thus stacking the odds in your favor that your body, or physical machine is as fine tuned as possible, makes all the sense in the world. Doesn’t it? Fasting and detoxification has the potential to remedy bad bodily conditions, into better ones, or ideally, making them disappear all together – if properly done, with body detox safety in mind.

Water fasting is a diet of, you guessed it, water, but variations allow you to eat some foods, that are all natural and living – no meat, pasta or breads, during this time. This type of fast, can last for 1 day or longer. Some people, will add lemon juice, or herbs to the process to accelerate the wanted “flushing” effect, or depending on the herb or supplement taken, to be more aggressive with this type of detoxification.

As you may already have researched or educated yourself about this healthy living topic, fasting and detoxification is more complicated than it first appears. Healthy? It certainly can be, but only when done with wisdom and care. Next, we’ll explore the more aggressive ways to fast, and begin to examine the best, proven concoctions, to detoxify your body.
